PSYCHOTHERAPISTS AROUND THE GLOBE

ABOUT MY PROJECT…

Moving abroad was always a dream of mine, and that dream came true. I knew that experiencing a different culture would enrich my life. However, I didn’t expect that I would also start looking at my work as a psychotherapist differently.

I moved to Berlin in 2015, a hub where around 190 nationalities live together. The demand for English-speaking therapists is high.

Clients from all around the world started to come to my office. I noticed that roles, relationship dynamics, and what we perceive as hurtful or successful could be very different from my own culture. I was intrigued and approached these differences with childlike curiosity.

I started to wonder what it was like to be a therapist in the countries my clients came from. And that was the starting point for my project Psychotherapists Around the Globe.

I came up with 8 questions designed to give us a broader understanding of psychotherapeutic work and the cultural dynamics that influence it.

You can hear how therapists from 78 different countries answered them here:

ABOUT ME

Hello, and thank you for stopping by.

I’m Eva. I lived and worked in Slovenia until my 30th birthday, and then I moved to Berlin, where I work now. I work in English and Slovenian, and since 2014, I have also been offering online counseling.

I am a counselor and have been working in private practice since 2012. My education included five years of intensive study, as well as individual and group therapy. I specialized in psychodynamic psychotherapy, but years of working with clients have led me to deepen my education through additional workshops, courses, and regular supervision. Over time, my approach has become more eclectic. In my work, I pay special attention to emotions and the body.

There are also some areas that fall outside my scope of work. I am not sufficiently trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or addiction treatment. I also don’t diagnose or prescribe medication. If you are specifically looking for either of these, I am probably not the right therapist for you.

Working in Berlin brought a new element to my work-diversity. Over the years, I have worked with clients from many different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. I value this diversity and want my practice to be a space where everyone feels welcome.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING IN BERLIN

A Little Bit About Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is one-on-one counseling and is confidential in nature. This means that what we talk about in our sessions stays between us.
During our first session, we get to know each other. I will introduce the Counseling Agreement and explain how I work, while you will have the opportunity to talk about what brought you to counseling. After this session, we both decide whether we would like to work together.

Who I work with
I offer individual counseling to adults aged 18 and older.
Some of the areas I focus on include anxiety, relationship difficulties, loss, trauma, emotional and narcissistic abuse, sexual abuse, and incest. I also support people going through the postpartum period or living with chronic illnesses.
I don’t offer addiction treatment.

How I work
In my work, I focus on understanding what you are experiencing and how it affects your everyday life.
We explore your past, especially how certain experiences might still influence you today. Some clients want to focus more on their past than others, and I adjust my approach to what feels right for you.

But understanding why something happens is only part of the work. We also look at how to approach difficult situations and develop new ways of dealing with them, including learning new skills.
An important part of my work is helping you become more aware of your emotions and how you experience them in your body.
Broadly speaking, therapy involves expanding our awareness. As we become more aware of our emotions, triggers, and automatic reactions, we create space to make a conscious choice about how we want to respond, rather than simply reacting.

Practical information
Sessions take place once a week, at a time we agree on together.
Counseling is available in English or Slovenian.

MY PASSION PROJECT

PSYCHOTHERAPISTS AROUND THE GLOBE (2023)

I interviewed psychotherapists around the globe to find out what is it to be a therapist in their country.

I ask each therapist the same 8 questions.
